Columbus Ohio Santa Mini Sessions :: Columbus, Ohio Children's Photographer

That time again! We are going to hold our Holiday Mini Sessions, however, there is one major difference this year: SANTA WILL BE COMING TO THE STUDIO!!!!!

Avoid the long lines and crying kids at the mall. This is your chance to have some quality time with Santa!! Eat cookies, drink hot cocoa, open presents, and read books with Santa. 20 minutes of uninterrupted, personal time with Santa at My NEW STUDIO!!
Each session will be 20 minutes long, and allow for the kids to warm up to the man in the big red suit. Child still afraid of Santa? I will also have some adorable sets in Holiday themes. To top it off, we will have 1 backdrop for a Holiday Family Photo.
Here are the details:
November 8th 9AM-2PM
20 Minute session and 5 digital images with print release
Online viewing gallery for print ordering and option to purchase all digital images.
Please email info@irisheyesphotography or call 740-504-0509 to reserve your spot now!!

How To Dress for a Family Photo Session!! :: Columbus, Ohio Family Photographer

One of the most frequent questions I get asked for family sessions is "What should we wear?" "How do I put together our outfits?". After answering this question over and over, and sending other photographers advice to my clients, I FINALLY decided to write a blog about it!!

There are two different ways I like to explain how to dress. For the self conscience mom, I say dress yourself first. Pick out an outfit that makes YOU feel beautiful and flirtatious. I need mom to look at the photo and feel like she is HOT! Let's face it, us women are the hardest on ourselves, so we won't pick a picture to put on our wall that we don't think we look good in. We really don't care about what our kids and spouses look like.

When Mom has her outfit picked out, Base the rest of the family's outfits around that color scheme. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT wear matching tops and bottoms. It is outdated, and lacks interest in the photo. Instead, combine complimenting colors. Varying patterns are OK as long as they aren't drastically different. Accessories are always a good way to tie in a color scheme, and also gives you something to do with your hands. Scarves, costume jewelry, hats, and jackets are some of my favorite accessories. Try to avoid large logos and graphics on shirts. They tend to be distracting, However, can be used in certain situations.

 Here are some great examples:

Example of where logos and graphics work:

Notice each family has a cohesive color palette with pops of color. Each family's ourfits fit the environment we are shooting in, and shows their personalities.

The second way that I suggest (and the way I like to design my family outfits) is off boutique or unique outfits. My daughter dresses in a lot of Matilda Jane dresses, They have beautiful color pallets to pull from, making it easy for me to pick out mine and my husband's outfits. When you want your kids to be the focus with a few photos of the whole family, this is a good way to go. For instance, a child's birthday photos, but you want one or two of the whole family.

Here is a great example of a family where the youngest daughter had a boutique shirt, and every one's outfits had matching colors within that shirt:

and another:

Remember, above all else, it is important that your family and your personalities shine. The clothes are important, but the most important things in the photographs are YOU :-)

Lifestyle/Portrait sessions:: Columbus, Ohio Children's Photographer

So....we know the kids....the ones who never sit still? The ones that you LITERALLY have 3 seconds at a time to capture a picture of? Well, Hudson is one of my more active kids. His mom and dad know this, and since he was 1 year old, we have done combo sessions. Of course they want that one or two "formal" family shots, but they are also realistic about their son. They know it will last about 10 minutes before he is D-O-N-E and refuses to cooperate anymore. SOOOO we schedule our sessions around something fun that he will love and allow me to capture amazing, wall-worthy photos of him being HIM!!!

For his 3 yr, we had a BLAST at the splash pad down town. We captured a few beautiful family photos, and then let him run free!

If you know your child will not be cooperative.....PLEASE for THEIR sake, your sanity, and my tears of feeling like a failure, let me know ahead of time, and we can plan one of these style sessions!!!

Kate's Senior Photos:: Columbus Ohio Senior Photographer

Kate is one of my BEAUTIFUL 2015 Senior ambassadors! I have been SOOOOO blessed with some GORGEOUS high school seniors this year. She truly has a free spirit, and LOVES to be outside. She wanted to have a casual, fun feel to her outdoor photos, and thought the gold in the studio brought out her beautiful hair and eye color. Her sister Blythe helped style her jewelry and hair accessories, and my AMAZING hair and make-up artist from Make You, LLC.
